This past weekend, I spent a few days in Calgary, since I had three days off and other people decided to head to the U of C Engineer's party. The party was fun, and the Engineers were decent hosts, but getting kicked out of a bar for no reason in -25°C weather really didn't make me want to go back.
The next morning, the other car of people left Calgary around 8am to make it back to Edmonton before noon. With my keys. Because my car has 3 different keys with 3 different essential functions (ignition, doors and trunk), I was able only to get into the car. So I spent a day with Wade and TJ being a "mall rat" in the city of Calgary.
Wade's car was parked in the cold, so it wouldn't start. We pushed it to a plug in, but then the cord wouldn't fit! He tried starting it and it worked! But he couldn't idle long enough to warm it up because he was out of gas. We went to Denny's and played with breakfast. We met a cool and funny greeting woman at Canadian Tire. We played in the snow on Wade's car. We toured Nortel and saw tons of COOL engineering stuff. We got milkshakes from Peter's Drive-In. We drove around chinook center for 1/2 hour looking for a parking spot and found half of one, and parked half on the sidewalk (hey, it works), we hung out in the mall, played in the sports store, and ended up at East Side Mario's. We picked up Ang, who had my keys, at the bus station and came home. I've never laughed so much in one day as I did this past Saturday. So much I bruised my ribs. It was just a FUN day. Thanks Wade and TJ!!
Since I haven't heard back from them by now, I'm assuming the interview I had went poorly. In fact, I know it did. I was in no shape to be answering the questions they were asking, I wasn't really prepared. So, I guess this means a continued meagre existence at Badass Jack's where I can be a "Sandwhich Engineer." Yay.
Hi, I'm Steph, and I want to introduce you all to my new 'get slim quick' scam. Of course, it's not the easiest, but it's worked for me. And you can do it too. Anyone who wants to shed pounds should just follow these simple steps:
1. Get fairly sick with a fever 2. Get better enough to move around a bit 3. Stay sick enough that food makes your stomach feel 'funny' 4. Don't eat 5. Have a relapse, go back to step 1.
Keep in mind that while you are sick you should be taking in lots of fluids. But fluids are slippery (we've all seen enough 'Caution: Wet Floor' signs and cartoons to know about this) and this will help your weight practically slip right off your bones.
Also, while you are sick, you do not want to make things worse by getting chilled, so stay as warm as possible at all times. This may lead to a lot of sweating, but have no fear, it's all part of the plan! Water is ~90% of your body weight so if you can lose that at the start, there's no need to try to get rid of it later on.
Being ill, you will probably not feel like doing much in terms of physical activity. That means this is the perfect weight loss program for lazy people. You will not have to lift weights, even the weight of your own body, if you don't feel up to the challenge. The secret here is that your muscles will lose mass, and therefore, in your weakened state, you will also be dropping the numbers on that scale. It all works out in your favour!
Now remember, if you're going to commit to any kind of weight-loss plan, you can't do a half-assed job. Either start it and stick with it, or don't attempt it at all. It could be more (immediately) dangerous that clogged arteries!!
I finally managed to snag an interview for an EIT position. This was my first interview since Epcor and it was also my first interview for a permanent position. That scares me!!
I don't think I did too well. I couldn't come up with examples of "times this situation happened to me" and that's what the WHOLE interview was like! I won't find out if I made it to the next round until Nov 18, when, if by 5pm I haven't heard from them, I can assume I didn't get the job. Harsh.
I guess I'll just have to wait until then to find out!
The third Matrix flick turned out to be a very cool movie after all. I was looking forward to this, despite the dissapointment I felt at the second movie. And I was not dissapointed this time.
This movie had what the second lacked: a plot, meaningful characters, great acting (Keanu didn't muck it all up) and really really cool technology. The design of the machines and the technology of Zion was awesome! I wish I could post a picture here of the cool mecha fighting gear they have (I'm sure anyone who's seen the previews will know what I'm talking about). The plot was somewhat reminiscent of a Final Fantasy story, "Man vs. Machine" where the machines weren't completely evil and even humans can be the enemy. Also, the common enemy of man and machine bringing them together for the final showdown reminded me of something from a FF RPG. Being a fan of these games, I clearly enjoyed Revolutions, and will definitely be seeing it again (not for the $12.00 it costs at Silver City, though! I'm too cheap).
